Versatile actor Sami Khan is currently winning hearts with his performance as two 'Asfand Yars' in HUM TV’s Saraab. One of the Asfand Yar is in love with his first cousin (played by Sonya Hussyn) whereas the other one appears as a hallucination to the same cousin, who is suffering from some psychological problems. Interesting, isn’t it?
In the last few years, Sami Khan’s body of work has become diverse and shocking; he was the protagonist in Aisi Hai Tanhai and Inkaar, the antagonist in Rasm-e-Dunya and Khudgarz and the wretched guy who loses the girl in Tau Dil Ka Kia Hua and Ishq Zahe Naseeb. Sami Khan is not his real name
He may have been Sami Khan for his fans and followers but it is not the actor’s real name. Born Mansoor Aslam Khan Niazi, he shortened his name to Sami Khan to make it more suitable for showbiz. Since his first project featured him as Sami Khan, the name has stuck to him and he has been using it ever since. And we don’t want him to revert to his original name, ever!
Sonu Nigam sang the first song filmed on him!
When Sami Khan did his first film Salakhain in 2004, Shahid Afridi was in his 20s, Misbah ul Haq wasn’t even a regular member of the Pakistan side, the two Ws had just retired from Cricket, George W Bush was the President of the United States, and single-screen cinemas were the only option for the audience. But when you have Zara Sheikh as your leading lady, Bollywood superstar Sonu Nigam singing for you, seasoned director Shehzad Rafique calling the shots and the amazing Rashid Khawaja helming the project as the producer, not much could go wrong. And thankfully, it didn’t!
He has won both the PTV Award and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz
Not many actors in Pakistan can boast to have won both the PTV Award for Best Actor as well as the coveted Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, that too in the same year. Sami Khan won the PTV Award for Best Actor for his performance in Ghar Ki Khatir (2012) and the same year the President of Pakistan conferred the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz on him for his contribution to Performing Arts.
He has an elder brother who looks like him too!
Sami Khan has an elder brother Taifoor Khan who is also part of the showbiz fraternity as an actor and director. He entered the music industry before Sami made his acting debut and later switched to acting, direction, and production. He is also part of Tanveer Jamal’s upcoming flick Japanese Connection as one of the lead actors while can be seen in TV commercials and TV dramas.
He was in singer Annie’s Mahiya music video!
It was this same brother who directed Annie Khalid’s music video of her hit song Mahiya; according to Sami Khan, she saw him roaming around his house while she was there to meet his brother. Since he was a known face due to his TV projects and a film appearance, she requested Taifoor Khan to consider Sami as the model in the music video and that’s how he came to be part of the song.
His Ramadan Transmission segment became the most-viewed segment of the year!
Sami Khan was also part of Ramadan Transmission as a co-host twice – once in ‘Ittihad Ramadan’ for A Plus in 2017 and later when the transmission moved to Geo Entertainment in 2018. Who can forget his emotional live transmission from outside the iconic Hırka-i Şerif Mosque in Istanbul where the blessed mantle of Prophet Muhammad PBUH) is preserved.
