8 Dramas That Will Be Gracing Your Screen … Soon!
Drama Serial 'Dunk'

Although COVID 19 has halted the production and screening of films in Pakistan, and around the world, TV dramas have made a resurgence in 2020. Following SOPs and using the best actors in the country, the rise of Pakistani drama industry has been the only good thing about this year. In the coming few months, big-budgeted dramas with ensemble cast will be gracing your screen and we decided to let you know about these dramas in advance, so that when they air, you are prepared to be dazzled. Read on:

Faryad (ARY Digital)
Cast: Zahid Ahmed, Adeel Chaudhry, Nawal Saeed, Aiza Awan, Izza Malik, Zainab Qayyum
Writer: Rehana Aftab
Director: Syed Ali Raza Usama, Shahid Shafaat
Production House: Next Level Entertainment

Zahid Ahmed returns to ARY Digital for the first time since Visaal in 2018 and instantly makes his presence felt; in the teasers of Faryad, he manages to grab the audience’s attention despite the presence of the handsome Adeel Chaudhry, upcoming stars Nawal Saeed, Aiza Awan, and Izza Malik, besides Zainab Qayyum who plays the ‘Yeh Shadi Nahi Ho Sakti’ mother to Adeel’s character. The teasers of the drama are out, and don’t be surprised by the name of two directors in the credits – Shahid Shafaat took over after Syed Ali Raza Usama met an accident and handed back the command when the latter returned.

Pehli Si Mohabbat (ARY Digital)
Cast: Shehryar Munawwar, Maya Ali, Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, Shabbir Jan, Nausheen Shah, Rabia Butt
Writer: Faiza Iftikhar
Director: Anjum Shehzad
Production House: IDream Entertainment

Shehryar Munawwar and Maya Ali’s excellent chemistry set the screen on fire in Parey Hut Love and will not be bringing the same chemistry to TV with Anjum Shehzad’s Pehli Si Mohabbat. The drama not only stars Nausheen Shah, Shabbir Jan, and Rabia Butt but will also mark the debut of fashion designer turned host Hassan Sheheryar Yasin who would be seen in an unrecognizable avatar. The love story would not just revolve around the two leading actors but also around their households and how their ‘love’ affects them. It will air in the first month of 2021 and the audience is too excited to see Sheheryar Munawwar and Maya Ali back on their TV screens after seven and four years respectively.

Dunk (ARY Digital)
Cast: Bilal Abbas, Sana Javed, Noman Ejaz, Fahad Sheikh, Shahood Alvi, Saife Hasan, Salma Hassan, Laila Wasti, Yasra Rizvi
Writer: Mohsin Ali
Director: Badar Mehmood
Production House: Big Bang Entertainment

Writer Mohsin Ali’s mystery thriller is all set to be unveiled next month with Bilal Abbas and Sana Javed in the lead and veterans Noman Ejaz, Shahood Alvi, and others in supporting roles. The story seemingly revolves around a group of friends who get themselves into some kind of trouble and are left to clear their name. With Badar Mehmood and Bilal Abbas reuniting after Balaa and Cheekh, it seems that the play will have a lot of suspense, action, and serious moments that will make it worth the audience’s while. It will also be Sana Javed’ first play after Ruswai and her marriage to rockstar Umair Jaswal earlier this year.

Affair (Geo Entertainment)
Cast: Faysal Quraishi, Hiba Bukhari, Kiran Haq, Wahaj Ali, Kamran Jeelani, Saba Hameed, Tanveer Jamal, Saife Hasan
Writer: Zanjabeel Asim Shah
Director: Siraj ul Haq
Production House: 7th Sky Entertainment

After a stellar performance in Muqaddar, Faysal Quraishi is back on Geo, and this time he will be heading the ensemble cast in Zanjabeel Asim Shah’s Affair. This might be or might not be the final name of the serial but with Hiba Bukhari in top form post-Deewangi, Wahaj Ali going through a perfect 2020 (Ehd-e-Wafa, Ghisi Piti Mohabbat and Bikhray Moti) and Siraj ul Haq directing, this play is all set to make it to your must-watch list after it airs next month. The cast also features Kiran Haq who did a fantastic job in Ek Jhooti Love Story, Kamran Jeelani who is fabulous in Bandhay Ek Dour Se and veteran actors Tanveer Jamal and Saba Hameed to name a few.

Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3 (Geo Entertainment)
Cast: Feroze Khan, Iqra Aziz, Junaid Khan, Tooba Siddiqui, Asma Abbas, Rubina Ashraf, Sunita Marshall and Javed Sheikh
Writer: Hashim Nadeem
Director: Wajahat Hussain
Production House: 7th Sky Entertainment

Hashim Nadeem’s Khuda Aur Mohabbat gets its third season and this time, Wajahat Hussain will try to do what Anjum Shehzad and Syed Ali Raza Usama did before him. With a change in the cast – there is neither Imran Abbas nor Sadia Khan in the cast this time – the play will see Feroze Khan, Iqra Aziz, and Junaid Khan sharing the screen for the first time together. How this season would be different from the other two seasons remains to be seen but one thing is certain, with new cast and crew comes a different kind of energy that might do Khuda Aur Mohabbat more good than bad!

Qayamat (Geo Entertainment)
Cast: Ahsan Khan, Amar Khan, Haroon Shahid, Neelam Muneer, Saba Faisal, Zainab Qayyum
Writer: Sarwat Nazir
Director: Ali Faizan
Production House: 7th Sky Entertainment

It might seem criminal to name a drama featuring Ahsan Khan, Haroon Shahid, Amar Khan, Neelam Muneer and Zainab Qayyum as Qayamat but that’s the name writer Sarwat Nazir gave to her play. Not much is known about the drama except that the cast features nearly every drop-dead gorgeous and handsome hunk you can find in the industry and that the story revolves around their characters who find themselves in a serious situation as the play progresses. Directed by Ali Faizan, and backed by the same production house that was behind Ahsan Khan’s last two successful ventures Shah Rukh Ki Saaliyan and Bandhay Ek Dour Se on GEO Entertainment, the play might be coming to a screen near sooner than you might think!

Raqs e Bismil (HUM TV)
Cast: Imran Ashraf, Sarah Khan, Mehmood Aslam, Nida Mumtaz, Furqan Qureshi, Anoushey Abbasi, Momin Saqib, Sajid Shah, Gul e Rana, Rashid Farooqi, Zara Sheikh, Saleem Meraj
Writer: Hashim Nadeem
Director: Wajahat Rauf
Production House: Showcase Production and MD Productions

Every now and then comes a play that changes the way dramas are made and watched in Pakistan; Wajahat Rauf’s comeback drama Raqs e Bismil will be one such play since it has an ensemble cast, a powerful script, and leading actors who are in the best form of their careers. Imran Ashraf’s Moosa and Sarah Khan Zohra will lead the star cast that will feature both Anoushey Abbasi and Momin Saqib in pivotal roles and will prove to be the TV debut of yesteryear filmstar Zara Sheikh. Slated to air in December, the teasers of the drama suggest that it will make you forget Adam from Mushk and Miraal from Sabaat, so powerful would be the performances.

Chupke Chupke (HUM TV)
Cast: Osman Khalid Butt, Ayeza Khan, Ali Safina, Mira Sethi, Arsalan Naseer, Farhan Ally Agha, Mani, Tara Mehmood, Hira Soomro, Asma Abbas, Uzma Beg, Aiman Saleem
Writer: Saima Akram Chaudhry
Director: Danish Nawaz
Production House: MD Productions

Initially scheduled to aired in Ramadan earlier this year, Chupke Chupke is finally back on track with an ensemble cast, a witty script, and a Suno Chanda replacement that might go on for more than one season. It not only reunites the dreamy pair of Osman Khalid Butt and Ayeza Khan, but introduces a few new actors to the industry including Arsalan Naseer of Comics by Arsalan fame, and Aiman Saleem. With Danish Nawaz calling the shots and Saima Akram Chaudhry penning the script, this serial will air in Ramadan next year and we can’t wait to get in the Suno Chanda mood with it.
