Bench: Short Film By Usman Mukhtar Is Heading To Cannes Film Festival

Usman Mukhtar's short film Bench has been killing it on the international front and it has been the talk of the town lately. The successful actor, director, and cinematographer began his career as a filmmaker in 2006 and has scaled many heights since. 

The short film, which has previously been recognized at various film festivals, is now heading to the Cannes Independent Film Festival and Usman Mukhtar is absolutely buzzing at this wonderful news.

The short film, starring Rubya Chaudhry, released its trailer earlier this year and immediately enchanted the audience with its simplicity and its ability to keep the audience on the edge of their seats.

The film won big at the South Shore Film Festival earlier this year in New York and it has also been previously nominated in the best short film category at the Independent Short Awards Festival in Los Angeles, USA, and the third South Asian Short Film Festival. 

Usman Mukhtar thanked his entire team for achieving this wonderful feat. He said: 

“The entire team is very happy and I’m honestly really proud of the From Natasha Ejaz to Rubya Chaudhry, Hassan Naeem to Ali Muddar - all of these guys are the core members of Bench and we're all really grateful and glad to have made it this far."

The Sabaat actor took to his Instagram to share the wonderful news that his short film has been shortlisted for the Cannes International Independent Film Festival.

“With great humility, joy and pride do we announce that Bench has been selected at the first Cannes International Independent Film Festival – CIIFF."

He added:

"We strive for the love of art and cinema and hope to reach new heights. we will continue making more films and also make it to the one and only Cannes Film Festival one day."

 Rubya Chaudhry also expressed her joy and gratitude on Instagram as she wrote:

"A big thanks is in order to everyone that watched it and showed so much love and appreciation."

 Earlier in the year, Usman Mukhtar shared the premise of the short film and said:

"This film is about two people who meet on a bench. It's a dialogue based film which takes very interesting twist and turns.”

The Cannes Film Festival will be held from October 18-20, 2020.
