The Cannes Film Festival that takes place mid-May every year was postponed to July due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, according to the latest news the festival’s 2020 edition has been cancelled and it will now take place in 2021 with the screening of movies for that year.

But the organizers did not miss the chance to celebrate critically acclaimed movies of this year, as they announced the line-up that would have appeared in the theatre this year.

On Wednesday, June 03rd, the organizers announced the line-up from the empty theatre. These films included 12 Years a Slave and Mangrove and Lover’s Rock by filmmaker Steve McQueen, The French Dispatch by Wes Anderson and Pixar film Soul by Pete Docter.

According to the festival director Thierry Fremaux, 56 movies were going to be aired this year but were cancelled due to the health crisis.
