Bollywood Mourns Actor Asif Basra’s Death
The Actor Was Found Hanged In His House In Dharamsala
53-year-old Actor Asif Basra was recently found dead in his own apartment. The news that shook his family, friends and Bollywood fraternity, happened on the 12th of November 2020.
Black Friday actor Asif Basra was found hanged to a ceiling fan with his dog’s leash. “Asif Basra committed suicide today morning. The body has gone for post-mortem. It will be done tomorrow. There is no suicide note,” - Police said in an official statement.
Asif Basra was seen in multiple avatars as supporting and main characters. More of his popularly known films are Parzania, Jab We Met and Kai Po Che with Sushant Singh who was also found dead in similar circumstances.
Actor Manoj Bajpayee, who worked with Basra recently, was shocked to hear the news of his demise. The gangs of Wasseypur actor wrote, “What? This is too shocking!! Shot with him just before lockdown! Oh My God!'
Another co-star Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who worked with Basra in many films together, expressed his sadness by saying, “It is unbelievable, yet another loss of a dear friend Asif Basra — gem of a talent and full of life personality. Rest in peace, my friend — more power to family."
Asif Basra worked with Kareena Kapoor in Jab We Met. Kareena Kapoor took to the internet and wrote, "Rest in peace Asif Basra. Heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones."
Bebo and Basra made the train sequence quite entertaining and humorous with their on-screen comfort and chemistry in Jab We Met.
Another Bollywood actress and Basra’s co-star in Band Bajaa Baraat, Anushka Sharma also spoke out for him and sent prayers to the family, "My sincere condolences and prayers with the family and loved ones. RIP Asif Basra," she wrote.
Film-maker Onir spoke about his little moments with Basra, "In shock. Can't believe that we have lost him. #asifbasra Used to meet him so often at the park jogging. He would tell me not to jog sideways, I might lose balance and hurt myself." Meanwhile another film director, writer and producer Hansal Mehta registered his shock by saying, "Asif Basra! Can’t be true… This is just very, very sad."
Actor Vir Das took to the internet and spoke about 2020 being the year of loss, "An amazing artist gone. This is a long terrible year Pensive face Rest in peace."
Actress Divya Dutta also couldn’t contain her shock. She wrote, "We shot together for Hostages 2. Looked like such a happy free-spirited man! And was such a fab actor! Rip Asif. This is hard to digest."
Director Rahul Dholakia, who worked in several films with Basra couldn’t fathom why Basra took this step of taking away his own life, "Shocked to hear about Basra!! What a wonderful actor and a jovial fellow – I mean why would he? Had directed him in Parzania (Chagan), in Lamhaa (the Darzee) – and also in Society – Very sad to hear about his passing! Asif Basra, hope you are at peace."
The Bollywood fraternity has been shaken by the deaths of many popular actors including Sushant Singh Rajput, Irrfan Khan And Rishi Kapoor this year and Basra’s untimely demise has caught them off-guard.
