Micro beads are way to usual to be found in any skincare product. You can walk in to your wash room and find literally any product that carries microbeads, it could be a face wash, scrub or even a toothpaste. Previously, microbeads were glorified in the beauty industry but now they are not recommended at all. Microbeads are small, smooth beads that can exfoliate the skin and the products containing these beads are not even expensive due to the low priced manufacturing techniques. But in terms of skin friendliness and environment, they’re even worse than we thought.

Microbeads became a general issue

Little beads could cause huge problems that people realised.

Once the people were enlightened about the environmental harm from microbeads it became a general issue. The issue with these beads are basically the material they are made up of, as we stated the material is used to make these beads as it is cheap and accessible. Hence, the microbeads are made up of non biodegradable plastic. Once these beads gets washed down from the face washes and scrubs they get dumped in to rivers and lakes and eventually damages the marine. It’s actually worse than dumping million of water bottles into the water because the fishes and sea creatures actually swallow these microbeads and it can choke them. Moreover, it’s not just the environment that is harmed by these microbeads, scrubbing your face from a scrub containing beads might feels smooth and relaxing but it can tear up the skin surface and it’s the biggest cause of wrinkles and early ageing. The rips on skin caused by microbeads allies bacteria and pollutants to get into the pores that ends up in stubborn black heads and form into severe acne.
