Family of Abdul Qavi Strips Him Of His Mufti Title After Recent Hareem Shah Controversy
Abdul Qavi's Family Isolates Itself From Disgraced cleric
The family of Mufti Abdul Qavi has restricted his movement and isolated him in his house. This comes after the disgraced cleric was embroiled in yet another controversy as TikToker Hareem Shah was seen slapping him in a video that went viral on social media, causing a major stir.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mufti Qavi’s uncle Abdul Wahid Nadeem said Abdul Qavi had been used by different people over the years for media attention.
Abdul Qavi's family forcibly took away his phone after his objectionable videos went viral on social media.
In a video that went viral on social media, Hareem Shah is seen slapping the cleric who is sitting on a bed, and engrossed in his mobile phone.
Hareem Shah confirmed that the woman in the video was her. The TikTok star claimed she was irked by inappropriate statements made by Mufti Qavi to her and her friend.
“I have no regrets. If men like him are punished, there will not be rapes in Pakistan.”
Abdul Qavi's family said:
"We are from a respected family involved in religious teaching through Darul Uloom Obaidia in Multan. We are doing the sacred task without any sectarian divide."
"With a heavy heart, I announce that we have withdrawn the title of Mufti (scholar) from him. He should not be addressed as Mufti anymore as he has damaged our family and its respect. We have seized his mobile phones and now he is under treatment for a mental illness he is suffering from."
Dr. Hafiz Abdul Kabir, a personal physician of the scholar, said Abdul Qavi’s “thoughts were not in his control. Now we will try to keep him away from the public eye. He has been isolated in his house."
