Gigi Hadid Says That She Is Proud To Be A Palestinian
Gigi Hadid Faced Unnecessary Backlash Over Vogue Cover
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, and especially when that woman is pregnant! Gigi Hadid has come out all gun blazing and fired shots left, right, and center, over the unnecessary hijab criticism that she has received recently.
Gigi Hadid is an American fashion model and influencer, who is signed to IMG Models since 2013. She, along with her sister, Bella Hadid, has garnered millions of fans worldwide and continues to reach for the skies.
The queen of the fashion world is not one to be silenced and continues to speak up on political and social injustices whenever she can.
In 2017, the American fashionista, who has a Palestinian and Dutch heritage, was featured in the first-ever cover of Vogue Arabia, As it was Vogue Arabia, the fashion model posed in a hijab and received severe backlash for it.
The cover showed Gigi Hadid donning a veil that looked like a hijab. It led to immense online hate as social media users blasted her for ‘cultural appropriation’ and for using a religious piece of clothing as a ‘fashion statement.’ Some even went on to suggest that it is fashion when Gigi Hadid does it but a piece of oppressive clothing when normal Muslims wear the hijab.
Gigi took some time out from her busy pregnancy schedule to set the record straight. She said:
“When I shot the cover of Vogue Arabia, [critics claimed] I wasn't Arab enough to be representing those girls. I'm half Palestinian. I am as much Palestinian as I am Dutch.”
"Just because I have blonde hair… I still carry the value of my ancestors."
Gigi Hadid concluded by saying that she takes immense pride in breaking stereotypes.
"I'm not Palestinian enough to be on the cover of Vogue Arabia… [expletive] you if you think that.”
The fashion model, along with her partner Zayn Malik, is expecting their first child and counting down the days till they are blessed with the beautiful gift from the heavens.
