Glee Star Naya Rivera Presumed Drowned After Swimming In California Lake
Naya River's Son Has Survived
Shocking and heartbreaking news is coming out of California today as Naya Rivera, aged 33, and best known for starring in six seasons of the hit Television series, Glee, has been presumed drowned at a California lake.
Naya Rivera's son has thankfully survived and was found floating on a boat, by an individual on another boat, who then immediately informed the authorities. The authorities began searching from air and with a dive team after finding her identification on the boat.
Naya Rivera went to the lake Wednesday afternoon and rented a boat with her young child. Both were seen going out on the lake together, Sheriff's Capt. Eric Buschow said at a news conference.
Capt. Eric Buschow said:
“There’s no evidence of foul play at this point. This may well be a case of drowning.”
Divers and helicopters were scouring the reservoir until darkness fell but no trace of Rivera has been found and the search has now been halted until morning.
The news comes as a shock to Naya Rivera's millions of fans. She famously starred as Santana Lopez on Glee for six years from 2009 and appeared in nearly every episode of the musical-comedy-drama. She was also on the CBS sitcom The Royal Family and in the comedy film The Master of Disguise.
Zack Teperman, her former publicist, said he was shocked by the news of her disappearance:
"I still can't believe what I'm hearing and hoping it isn't true," he posted on social media. "I'm just sad. Naya Rivera was one of the first people I had the honor of working with back in 2009 when I got into public relations and moved to Hollywood. One of the first people to allow me to give her advice and guide her through those crazy Glee days."
