Mahira Khan and Momina Mustehsan Turn Down Offers To Endorse Skin Whitening Products
Mahira Khan Reveals She was offered many times to endorse fairness brands
The movement ‘Black Lives Matter’ after the brutal killing of George Floyd has initiated another important talk of the town in Pakistan- endorsement of fairness cream products by our celebrities.
Earlier, Zara Noor Abbas who appeared in one of the fairness cream ads, was trolled badly by the users as she gave her two cents on the trending hashtag ‘Black Lives Matter.’ Although she gave a befitting reply to all those trolls and said, “That does not promote killing. Does not promote racism. Stop making this out of context when it is not the agenda. Your word doesn’t matter here. What matters is human life and equality and this is what I am here for. A face wash is killing No one."
Celebrities are unaware of the consequences of endorsing a simple fairness brand as many people follow and admire them. Undeliberate, they fuel for promoting racism and dark complexion stereotype.
On the other hand, there are few stars who completely understand and turn down to endorse any such brand.
Recently, Mahira Khan came forth and revealed that she has been refusing all those fairness brands advertisements since the beginning of her career.
On a microblogging site Twitter, the Raees star wrote, “Been refusing ever since I was a VJ till now. Never endorsed a skin lightening product."
There came, Momina Mustehsan who seconded Mahira’s thoughts and commented, "Same here. Always turned down all fairness product endorsements. The amount of melanin in your skin has nothing to do with how beautiful you are. If we ALL responsibly refuse whitening endorsements, it might cause a shift in the market. We have the power to change the narrative,” the singer reiterated.
