Meesha Vs Ali - Iffat Omar Could Not Appear For Cross-Examination

Actress Iffat Omar could not appear as a witness in the February 10 hearing of the defamation case filed by singer Ali Zafar against singer Meesha Shafi.

The defamation case was heard by Additional Sessions Judge Imtiaz Ali, in which Iffat Omar could not appear, and his lawyers filed a petition seeking exemption from appearing in court.

Iffat Omar's lawyers told the court that the actress was in Karachi, for essential work, due to which she could not appear in the hearing today.

The court accepted the petition filed by Iffat Omar. However, the court ordered the actress to appear at the next hearing by February 17.

In the last hearing, the court had directed Ali Zafar's lawyers to complete the cross-examination from Iffat Omar to the next hearing, and the court had initially summoned her on February 1.

Iffat Omar could not even appear in the hearing on February 10 to complete the interrogation, and now the court directed Ali Zafar's lawyers to finalize the interrogation from the actress till the next hearing.

Iffat Omar first appeared in court on December 12, 2020, after which the case was heard on December 19, but Iffat Omar's cross-examination could not be completed.

A hearing was scheduled to be held on January 6, 2021, to complete Iffat Omar's interrogation, but due to some reasons, the hearing could not be conducted. But was called again.

However, their cross-examination could not be completed even on February 1 and February 10. Before Iffat Omar, Meesha Shafi and her mother Saba Hameed have also recorded their statements. After that, a cross-examination of Meseha Shafi will also take place.

The cross-examination of Ali Zafar and his witnesses has been completed before the cross-examination of Meesha Shafi's witnesses. However, the cross-examination of Meesha Shafi's witnesses is likely to take at least another four months.

The case was filed by Ali Zafar against Meesha Shafi. The defamation case was filed by Ali Zafar when the singer had accused him of sexual harassment.

Meesha Shafi, in his tweets in April 2018, accused Ali Zafar of sexual harassment.

The case between Meesha Shafi and Ali Zafar should be completed in the past 2 years. This case has become the most critical case of defamation in the country.
