Meesha Vs Ali Zafar: Challan Against Meesha Could Not Be Presented
Another Defamation Case Of Ali Zafar And Meesha Shafi Is Pending
In the case of defaming singer and actor Ali Zafar on social media, actress Iffat Omar excused from attending, accused Leena Ghani was acquitted while Ali Gul Pir filed a petition to appoint a council in his place.
The case was heard in the Lahore District Court by Judicial Magistrate Zulfiqar Bari on a challan submitted by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The FIA convicted nine people, including singer Meesha Shafi, in a case of defaming singer Ali Zafar on social media and requested the trial court to take action against all of them. The challan submitted by the department was approved on December 17.
Ali Zafar had registered a complaint with the FIA, two years ago against an organized campaign against him on social media, which was investigated by the Federal Investigation Agency for almost two years.
Singer Meesha Shafi's legal team had said that there were "flaws" in the investigation, completed by the FIA.
The Dam Ghutku singer's legal team said that the main legal point of the FIA is to prove how guilty Meesha Shafi is and it has not been determined yet. At the same time, Meesha Shafi's team expressed hope that the singer and others named in the case would not be found guilty.
Also, the interim challan submitted by the FIA was heard in the Judicial Court on December 24, 2020, in which the court ordered the FIA to file a complete challan against Meesha Shafi.
However, the FIA has not yet been able to file a full challan against Meesha Shafi in the hearing held on February 9, 2021.
During the hearing in the court of Magistrate Zulfiqar Bari, the FIA lawyers informed the court that Meesha Shafi is currently out of the country, due to which a final and complete challan could not be filed against her.
The FIA has filed final challans against all the other eight accused and the court had also ordered all the other accused to appear at the hearing on February 9.
Actress Iffat Omar could not appear during the hearing and she also filed a petition in the court seeking exemption from attendance permanently, in the said case.
At the same time, Leena Ghani, the accused in the case, also filed a petition seeking acquittal.
Singer Ali Gul Pir also filed a petition in the court seeking the appointment of a council member in his place while the FIA sought time from the court to file a final challan.
In the hearing held on February 9, six accused including Fareeha Ayub, Haseem-uz-Zaman, and Syed Faizan appeared in the court.
After a brief hearing of the case, the court directed the FIA to file a comprehensive and final challan against Meesha Shafi by February 25.
It should be noted that this case is different from the defamation case of Ali Zafar and Meesha Shafi.
A defamation suit filed by Ali Zafar is also pending in the Lahore Sessions Court and no decision has been taken yet.
