Met Gala 2020 Cancelled: 5 Of The Best Dressed Celebs From 2019
Following the COVID-19 health crisis, the Met Gala has finally been called off for 2020.
The Met Gala, also known as the party of the year, has been cancelled for the year 2020 in a statement released by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Held on the first Monday of May, the Gala was postponed after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. However, with the rise in cases across the globe and no ease in the lockdown imposed in many countries, the museum released a statement that said the Met Gala was cancelled “due to the global health crisis.”
The museum has been closed since early March and is looking to reopen in mid-August. It will reduce its hours of operations and will not be holding any gatherings, tours and concerts through the whole year. According to the president of the museum, Daniel H, the museum will resume all activities in the calendar year 2021, “including a belated celebration of its 150th anniversary.”
The news comes as disappointment for many fashion enthusiasts who anxiously wait for the party of the year to see some of the best creations adorned by their favorite celebrities. This year’s Costume Institute exhibition theme was "About Time: Fashion and Duration."
But with Met Gala cancelled this year, we look at some of the best dressed celebrities from last year:
Ryan Murphy in Christian Siriano
Lana Condor in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture wearing Lark & Berry jewelry
Maluma in Moschino by Jeremy Scott
Alicia Keys in Carolina Herrera wearing Tiffany & Co. jewelry
Emma Roberts in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture wearing Irene Neuwirth jewelry
Last year’s theme for the exhibition was “Notes on ‘Camp’”, a 1964 seminal essay by Susan Sontag’s.
