The Hollywood actor will be playing the role of Joe Exotic in a TV adaptation of Netflix popular documentary.
While the world and our celebrities may be under quarantine owing to the outbreak of COVID-19, there is something to look forward to once the lockdown is lifted – Nicolas Cage as Tiger King. Yes, you read that right!
According to E! News, the American actor will be starring as the eccentric zookeeper Joe Exotic in a limited TV series. The eight episodes-long series will be produced by the Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios.
The 56-year-old actor himself will be the executive producer of the show, while the script will be written by the American Vandal showrunner Dan Lagana.
The scripted TV series is based on the Texas Monthly article "Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild," by Leif Reigstad. It will focus on Joe Exotic, a gun-toting wild animal owner in Oklahoma, US, who fights to keep his park.
Joe Exotic became popular among the masses after the online streaming platform Netflix released a documentary on him in March this year. The documentary titled ‘Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem And Madness’ reached 34.3 million viewers in just 10 days of its release.
For the Oscar-winning actor, the TV adaption would mark his debut in the television industry. Previously, he has only been associated with films, some of which have been box office hits, such as, National Treasure, Ghost Rider and Leaving Las Vegas, to name a few.
Cage will also be starring in director Jowel Crawford’s Crood 2 that is slated to release at the end of 2020. The actor will be lending his voice to the character Grug in the animated movie.
