It should be noted that OTT (over-the-top) platforms give consumers access to movies, dramas, and shows on the Internet for a fee, and the digital era has seen an increase in the on-demand streaming culture around the world.

In October last year, Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry had hinted that the government would soon launch a streaming website.

Fawad Chaudhry had said that the Ministry of Science and Technology has completed a lot of work on the streaming website, and the ministry has asked the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to prepare guidelines for airing content.

However, no progress has been made on introducing the government's streaming website, but a private digital media platform had announced the launch of the streaming website soon.

In November 2020, E-max Media Group, which already runs a streaming website, announced that it would launch a Netflix-style website, UrduFlix, featuring purely Urdu dramas, movies and documentaries. Drama translated into Urdu from Turkish will be broadcast, including film, comedy, and reality shows.

Later, UrduFlix's Instagram post said that the platform will be launched in January 2021, after which it was noted that users will be able to access the content from February 26.

UrduFlix website is available, and users can download its app from Google Play Store and Apple Play Store.

Original web series are also available on the Urdu OTT platform, including Alizeh Shah's Dulhan Aur Ek Raat, Mashal Khan Ki Lifafa Daayan, and Hareem Shah's Raaz.

The trailer of the upcoming UrduFlix web series 'Aurat Gardi' has also been released recently, in which Jawariya Saud and Ali Khan will act.
