On Thursday evening, PEMRA decided to ban the telecast of the drama serial that is currently being aired on ARY Digital. According to a notification issued, PEMRA has put an immediate ban on the drama as it goes against the “social and moral ethics of Pakistani society”.

The statement read:

“PEMRA had given multiple warnings to the channel to revise the content of Jalan, however, the channel administration refused to comply with PEMRA’s code of ethics and it has now been banned under Section 27 of the PEMRA Ordinance.”

The drama's plotline centers around infidelity and viewers are exposed to an illicit affair between a man and his sister-in-law. All three actors playing their respective roles in the drama have received severe backlash from viewers and now PEMRA has decided to pull the plug on the drama serial altogether.

Jalan is not the only drama that has come under the firing line as recently, PEMRA has gone on a banning spree and pulled the repeat telecast of drama serials Ishqiya and Pyar Ke Sadqay. PEMRA had previously warned the channel airing Jalan that strict action would be taken if the content of the drama was not revised.

PEMRA has also requested all stakeholders to immediately review the content of all their future dramas and avoid this kind of embarrassment in the future.
