Rishi Kapoor Wanted To Watch The Legend Of Maula Jatt
The Bollywood icon had contacted the producer of the Pakistani film inquiring about its release
One thing that the Bollywood fraternity or anyone who knew actor Rishi Kapoor would agree upon is that he did not shy away from doing the extraordinary. Even if it meant reaching out to a film producer in your neighboring country that you have estranged relationships with.
Following the death of Bollywood legend on April 30th, Ammara Hikmat the producer of the long-awaited movie The Legend of Maula Jatt (TLOMJ) turned to social media to remember her brief conversation with the icon.
Hikmat shared a screenshot of her messages with the 67-year-old actor, as he inquired about when the movie would release.
“He had been in touch for a while… used to ask questions about TLOMJ and wanted to watch it... Missed reading his last message. Saw it yesterday! RIP,” wrote the producer.
In an interview with a local publication recently, Hikmat mentioned that the only reason she shared the screenshot was because she felt extremely emotional after learning about Kapoor’s sudden demise.
She further stated that she did not even know him personally, but came into contact after the icon himself reached out to her to inquire about the movie.
Kapoor had worked with the leading star of TLOMJ, Fawad Khan, in 2016 in the Bollywood movie Kapoor & Sons. Since then he had followed his work and that is how he learnt about Hikmat’s upcoming movie.
Remember Kapoor’s humble demeanor, she said, “In the first message that I got from him, he wrote, “Hello, I am from Mumbai…” and I was completely startled. Of course I knew who he was and yet, this superstar was messaging me and introducing himself.”
After a prolonged legal battle delaying its release, the movie was slated to release on Eid-ul-Fitr this year. However, it is most likely to be delayed once again, owing to the lockdown in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
