The Batman Spinoff Cop Show Announced For HBO Max
Matt Reeves' 'The Batman' To Spin-Off New Gotham Cop Show On HBO Max
Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Ben Affleck will not be returning as Batman on the big screen, for the upcoming superhero flick titled 'The Batman' by Matt Reeves. Soon after, it was revealed that Robert Pattinson, the former Twilight actor, would be replacing Affleck as the caped crusader.
Then last week, we came to know that Ben Affleck has signed a contract with HBO Max and is all set to return as the Batman.
HBO Max is not done yet. It has now been announced that an upcoming TV show is in the works as well. It will focus on Gotham City's men and women in blue after they share screen time with Robert Pattinson's new big-screen Caped Crusader.
The series on HBO Max will focus on the Gotham City Police Department and will be spinning-off of director Matt Reeves' upcoming "The Batman" movie (in theaters Oct. 1, 2021).
Fans of Batman would be thrilled to know that the series will build on themes of corruption in the GCPD introduced in "The Batman" film and also help launch a new Batman-centric universe across multiple entertainment platforms.
Matt Reeves said:
“This is an amazing opportunity, not only to expand the vision of the world I am creating in the film but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a long-form format can afford,"
No casting, title, or expected broadcast date has been announced yet but it is great to see the DC Universe expanding and following the similar successful theme of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
