When Chadwick Boseman Revealed The Name Of His Secret Benefactor
Chadwick Boseman and Denzel Washington Shared A Special Bond
Chadwick Boseman once said, "There is no ‘Black Panther’ without Denzel Washington.” and it couldn't be more true. The Black Panther star and Denzel Washington shared a deep and meaningful connection even before Chadwick Boseman made it big.
Moreover, Chadwick Boseman was once referred to as "the next Denzel Washington" that in itself is a massive compliment. The Black Panther star tragically died after a long and private battle with colon cancer.
In March 2018, at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Chadwick Boseman revealed a secret that he had been keeping inside him for far too long, much to everyone's amazement. He revealed that Denzel Washington paid his fees for an acting course in Oxford almost 20 years ago.
One year after the Black Panther superstar honored legendary Hollywood actor Denzel Washington at the 47th AFI Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony, it is Denzel Washington's turn to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who died Friday at age 43.
Chadwick Boseman's fitting tribute to Denzel Washington brought tears to the legend's eyes. He said:
"As fate would have it, I was one of the students that he paid for. Imagine receiving the letter that your tuition for that summer was paid for and that your benefactor was none other than the dopest actor on the planet."
Now, after Chadwick's sudden demise, Denzel Washington has paid tribute to the Black Panther star over his short yet illustrious career. He said:
“He was a gentle soul and a brilliant artist, who will stay with us for eternity through his iconic performances over his short yet illustrious career. God bless Chadwick Boseman.”
Several notable Hollywood personalities have paid tribute to the late actor including Angela Bassett, Barry Jenkins, Issa Rae, Halle Barry, LeBron James, Jordan Peele, Bob Iger, Viola Davis, Mark Ruffalo, Kamala Harris, and Oprah Winfrey.
Chadwick Boseman will always be remembered as the actor who gave aspiring black actors the inspiration and courage to believe in their dreams and achieve them.
His co-star in Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan shared an emotional tribute to him on his Instagram:
"I’ve been trying to find the words, but nothing comes close to how I feel. I’ve been reflecting on every moment, every conversation, every laugh, every disagreement, every hug…everything.
I wish we had more time."
I’ve been trying to find the words, but nothing comes close to how I feel. I’ve been reflecting on every moment, every conversation, every laugh, every disagreement, every hug…everything. I wish we had more time. One of the last times we spoke, you said we were forever linked , and now the truth of that means more to me than ever. Since nearly the beginning of my career, starting with All My Children when I was 16 years old you paved the way for me. You showed me how to be better, honor purpose, and create legacy. And whether you’ve known it or not…I’ve been watching, learning and constantly motivated by your greatness. I wish we had more time. Everything you’ve given the world … the legends and heroes that you’ve shown us we are … will live on forever. But the thing that hurts the most is that I now understand how much of a legend and hero YOU are. Through it all, you never lost sight of what you loved most. You cared about your family , your friends, your craft, your spirit. You cared about the kids, the community, our culture and humanity. You cared about me. You are my big brother, but I never fully got a chance to tell you, or to truly give you your flowers while you were here. I wish we had more time. I'm more aware now than ever that time is short with people we love and admire. I’m gonna miss your honesty, your generosity, your sense of humor, and incredible gifts. I’ll miss the gift of sharing space with you in scenes. I’m dedicating the rest of my days to live the way you did. With grace, courage, and no regrets. “Is this your king!?” Yes . he . is! Rest In Power Brother.
