Zara Shahjahan Gave A Reply To People Calling Her Models “Maids“
The designer explained the choice of models and the colourism faced in our country.
Zara Shahjahan - a big name with well recognised work in the field of designing. The designers usually come up with a different idea of shoots to make things look realistic for every class of woman buying the clothes. Recently, the designer faced trolls on the recent photoshoot again. The trollers called her models “looking like maids” and the fashion guru finally came up with her reply to shut these trollers.

Most Asian countries are still in the darkness of colourism which is a form of discrimination where light skinned is superior. Zara Shahjahan started her post by writing, “Let’s talk about these pictures.” Taking further, the designer explained that the team faced several obstacles during the shoot since day one when the designer and her model arrived Turkey as they announced a lockdown. Hence, they had to find South Asian like models and ended up working with these Mexican models. The designer accepted that she considered the shoot as a success but the response received was utterly disappointing. The designer stated that she’s extremely disappointed from people commenting, "She looks like a masi” on the pictures of her models. She questioned netizens that why models are always supposed to be “light skinned and sultry." Summing up her post, Zara stated that her collection is sold out due to her loyal customers.
Well, this was not the first time when colourism or classism became an issue in our country. Zara and many others are struck by the societal pressure of white skin supremacy that could be seen on almost all the channels and billboards across the country.
